The main reference work used in this description is "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Newman. A flintlock carbine with 30 3/4" barrel of .72 caliber. The muzzle section is similar to that shown in #22 on Page 45 of Newman's book described as a Dutch light musket circa 1771-1780 using a long 2 strap upper barrel band plus a small bayonet clip in its forend with a bayonet lug setback 1/2" from the muzzle. The lock is very similar to that shown in #23 on page 36 with a rounded face which Newman describes as 1771-1795 "Note the Dutch return to a rounded lock again in the 1770's." 54 1/4 " overall length with a weight of 7.7 pounds. The furniture is brass with the square backed buttplate engraved with the initials "N.G". A large oval plate is mounted above the wrist. The steel ramrod has a button head. This is a rare Rev. War period Dutch piece. Antique
